Family Law
Divorce
Divorce will end your marriage but your relationship with your spouse
will continue in a new form. You will co-parent your children together
for many years. Even couples without children have ongoing property and
financial issues. We can guide you through each step in the divorce
proceedings, preserving your rights and your relationships. Years of
experience in this field mean that we will be attentive to outside
issues like tax liability while making sure that you receive a fair
property settlement and a parenting plan that meets your children's
needs.
Custody
We can help you prepare your initial request for custody/visitation. By
law, you are required to attend mediation with your ex-spouse and Family
Court Services, and no attorneys can be present. We’ll prepare you for
the mediation to make sure you know what to expect and can communicate
your children's needs. If you and your spouse cannot agree, the mediator
will make a custody and visitation recommendation to the court. We will
be ready to represent you at your custody hearings.
Child
and Spousal Support/Division of Property
We’ll analyze your financial situation to create an estimate of initial,
temporary child and spousal support. Our system is comparable to the
program used by the San Diego County Courts, so we can help prepare you
for what you may be paying or receiving before you get to court.
Property division has many unexpected consequences. As an experienced
attorney I can help you arrive at a fair agreement that minimizes tax
consequences and helps both parties to move on to the next stage of
their lives.
